Overview of Dulwich

Dulwich College is a famous boarding school in the UK with a history of nearly 400 years. The school has a high teaching standard ranked the 21st in 2016 UK Academic Ranking. Each year, dozens of its graduates get into top universities like Oxford and Cambridge. The college is quite influential, with a global presence of nearly 10 campuses. Sports and arts are the most distinctive subjects of the college. Its founder, Edward Alleyn, was a leading actor during Elizabethan & Jacobean times, whose dedication to art has been wielding influence on Dulwich education ever since. Dulwich College Summer Course is designed for teenagers aged 12-17. Through a learning of 3-week lessons, it aims to bring authentic British education to students and improve their English skills through a diversity of activities. This course focuses on debating skills, critical thinking, IELTS preparation and art appreciation, allowing students to better adapt to the upcoming innovative society.

Course Design

In the following programmes, General English are compulsory, while extracurricular learning, dance drama, IELTS preparation, intensive academics and young global leader are optional. Course combinations are recommended as follows:

  • General English

    15 hours a week. The subjects are decided based on syllabus, mainly including countries and regions across the world; entertainment project; house and home; myths and legends; science, nature and technology; the past and the future

  • IELTS Preparation

    This programme is designed for students aged 14-17, who has a fairly good command of English. 12 hours a week to intensify IELTS preparation; teachers with rich experiences in IELTS training help students to increase their understanding of IELTS, and escort them in enhancing their test-taking skills and English level.

  • Dance Drama

    This programme is suitable for all students meeting age requirements. 12 hours a week, led by subject teachers teaching song-singings, dancing and drama performance. Besides, students will go to the London’s West End to enjoy classic music show, and feel the charisma of art.

  • Extracurricular Learning

    6 hours a week, consisting of various activities such as press interview, creative writing, art handwork, digital image, cooking, etc. Students need to submit a performance work for completion of the course. Another 6 hours are reserved for various sports activities.

  • Young global leader

    Young global leader

    15 debate classes and 15 critical thinking classes per week, attended by students from different countries and with different complexions. These students will be divided into groups. Drawing on their knowledge acquisition and eloquence, they, as a team, express their thoughts and points despite different ones, and share their unique experiences in an international atmosphere. The course explains teamwork spirit and brings cultural shock to students from different cultures and backgrounds, helping them to foster a wider perspective.

  • Intensive Academics

    Intensive Academics

    30 hours per week, in which intensive teaching of 3 core subjects, namely Math, English and Science will be conducted by professionals. The programme integrates functionality, interactivity and emphasis on learning through collaboration. Through a series of mock interview, students may also enhance their confidence and overall competitiveness for admission tests and interviews of English boarding school or other schools at home and abroad.
