Students study English material and create their own stories, to improve reading, writing, speaking and grammar in a synchronized way. They may practice pronunciation and oral English in class, or during drama performance.
Through intriguing and interesting science experiments, students learn basic knowledge of chemistry, physics and biology. These experiments are like “how to drop an egg without breaking it”.
• England History
Students learn about 1-2 important periods throughout the England history, about how these periods influence current culture and society of Britain. They will go to Godalming, the famous historical city in England, to gain a first-hand experience.
Students learn about UK’s geographical structures, major lakes, rivers and seas as well as the influence of climate on geography. As Charterhouse is situated in an area of “outstanding natural beauty”, pupils may use what they have newly learnt to analyze the reason for the geological formation of the area.
• British etiquette
Learning British etiquette in daily life: the teacher will instruct students to learn about table manners when having meal.
Students receive guidance from local theatre director during rehearsal play. The Drama course is the highlight of this summer course, in which kids may learn how to acknowledge their feelings and become more confident in self-expression. At the end of this class, each student will be participating in the stage performance at the school’s theatre.
The art course of Charterhouse includes watercolor painting and drawing. Students may learn art appreciation basics and basic painting skills. Works finished at or for the class on their own may be kept by themselves as souvenir.
• Sporting activities
Various sports programs are included such as football, basketball, tug-of-war, Frisbee, etc.
• Reading and diary
At night, students picks up their favorite book in the library and read the book under guidance, in order to develop reading habits. After reading, it is diary time. Outstanding ones will be read aloud in front of other students.
• Visit to UK scenic spot
Attendants may have a visit to famous attractions, such as London Science Museum, Marwell zoo, Arundel Castle, etc. These destinations are of educational significance since they are closely related to the learning subjects in class. During the visit, students need to find answers asked by the teacher and discuss in group with others, so as to consolidate knowledge and form a keen and intense understanding of the history and culture of the UK.
