As one of the Ivy League universities, Yale is as reputable and popular as Harvard and Princeton. Despite the fierce competition among outstanding applicants, Yale seems to accept applicants of a particular type. Having noticed that, our senior US Consultant Anthony and his team successfully helped Marinna get into Yale. Usually with an ACT scores of being 29, Marinna was left with a limited choice to apply to US universities ranking 50th or so, yet now she was admitted to Yale! Why?

Make a hobby into a profession

 

 

 

Marinna loves writing pretty much. Her marvelous writing ability deeply impressed Mr. Anthony when they first met. That’s when Anthony saw the potential in her and suggested her to write a book. 

 

Marinna followed his advice, and two books of her were published, which was a substantial achievement and something that naturally jumped off the page. In addition, she’s also the Producer and Writer of plays for summer theatre program, Founder of school mentoring program. All of these support in her application that her writing ability has achieved on a professional level.   

 

 

Top universities in the US are looking for something that really substantiate applicants’ hobbies. So that gives us the clue: if students are aiming for top US universities, it’s vital that they have a dedicated focus to something they really love or good at and prove them potently

 

 

 

A diversity of hobbies

 

 

Besides her talent in writing literature works, Marinna is also engaged in various activities: Karate (black belt), member of children’s choir, independent study of Portuguese. These wide range of activities show her willingness and openness to learn and try out new things. 

 

To make sure applicants stand out among other exceptional applicants, it is important that they maintain their own strengths and characteristics while ready to take on new things as widest as possible.

 

 

 

Based on overall understanding of Marinna’s traits and university goals, Anthony and his team developed a long-term plan for her. The plan advised that she play her strengths to the greatest extent and participate in some other activities she could go to.

 

 

Mr. Anthony was the former Director of US-UK Fulbright Commission with responsibility for the US Educational Advisory Service, led a team of admissions officers of top universities across the globe, and has successfully gotten a number of students into top universities including Stanford University, Columbia University, University of Cambridge and Imperial College London.
