2018 Summer Programs Overview

This summer our BE students went on Summer Courses to UK and US schools and universities. They all had a fun time and an enriching experience. BE will offer the opportunity for our students to sign up to these courses again next summer! We will also offer a 2018 Winter Course in Switzerland.

These are some of the courses our students attended this summer!

 

Eton College Summer Course

Eton’s two and a half week Summer Course held classes including: drama, English, research, history, and pre-testing. Each class had fewer than thirteen students. The drama classes inspired the students’ creativity, the research classes got them to use their imagination, the history classes allowed the students to drawn on lessons from the past.

They also attended lectures led by a variety of industry leaders, and in the evenings tutors helped to proofread and correct their English diaries. The students learnt about English etiquette and manners, and took part in Eton’s traditional sport of rowing. Whilst participating in the research classes, the children improved their spoken level of English, grew accustomed to English manners, and improved their teamwork and communication skills.

 

Harrow School Summer Course

The school placed them in the appropriate class levels according to the students’ age and language ability. In this rigorous learning environment, the students’ ability to express themselves in English dramatically improved. The variety of activities provided included drama, team projects, themed lectures, and sports activities, which allowed them to learn and play at the same time. Their self-confidence grew in leaps and bounds, as did their teamwork and social skills and their ability to express themselves in a group situation. The fun evening enrichment activities included jewelry making, movie nights, treasure hunts, KTV and many more.

 

Charterhouse Summer Course

At Charterhouse’s Summer Course there were ten students per class, with a teacher student ratio of 1:2.

Every student’s English level improved through classes focused on reading and creative writing. Students also attended science and geography classes, as well as visited the UK’s historical sites in order to take learning outside of the classroom and more deeply understand British history and culture.

Students were assigned to classes based on their age and received age appropriate pastoral care.

Highlights: the courses developed the students’ creativity and imagination, improved their self-confidence, cultivated their social skills and allowed them to experience a more independent lifestyle.

 

Stanford University Technology Camp

During the first week, students visited some of the top technology companies including Intel and Apple. They also visited both the Berkeley and Los Angeles campuses of the University of California.

During the second week, students attended classes at Stanford University. Their classmates were native English speakers and together they attended America’s top technology summer program. The students had the chance to design robots, try 3D printing, design smartphone apps etc.

These classes improved the students’ decision-making abilities, as well as their analytical and teamwork skills.

 

Dunn School Summer Course

Dunn School Summer Course is a four-week program studying abroad at an American school, where students of many nationalities study and live together alongside American students. It is a great way to experience an authentic American style education. The courses at Dunn School included grammar, speech and debate, horse riding, music, baseball etc. Every week there were also a variety of extra-curricular activities, including going to watch a baseball game, surfing, archery, American football, rock climbing and many more.

At the same time as getting to try new sports, students also the opportunity to have thorough one-on-one consultations with their teachers. This included a detailed review of their performance on courses they participated in, as well as a report about their score on the TOEFLs.
