William graduated from Eton in 2000 and studied Management Science at Manchester University whilst on a sports scholarship for Rowing; in which he won a gold medal for England at junior level, and more recently represented China in both the World Coastal Rowing and at World Masters Level. William is married to Emma with three Children, with the two oldest attending Wycombe Abbey in Hong Kong. William moved to China in 2003 to set up BE Education to help Chinese students attend British Boarding Schools. He then set up the first summer course for Chinese students in 2005 at Eton College, then another in 2008 with Charterhouse School.
William started a tutoring center in Shanghai in 2006 to complement the consultancy business and subsequently opened offices in multiple cities across mainland China, Hong Kong and London, with the tutoring now also being offered online. In June 2022, William signed a deal with Pearson to offer short courses, MA, MSc and MBA degrees from Oxford University, King’s College London, Leeds University and Manchester Metropolitan University in China. This division is now overseen by William’s wife Emma.
In 2008 William opened his first School, Oxford International School in Shanghai, targeting high school students preparing for top overseas universities, with schools following in Qingdao, Chengdu and Changzhou.
In 2015 William signed a deal with Wycombe Abbey to open schools in China, followed shortly by the successful exit of the Oxford International College Schools and rebranding of the Changzhou school to Wycombe Abbey. William assembled a team to manage the brand and in 2019 they opened Wycombe Abbey in Hong Kong and in 2021 opened Wycombe Abbey schools in Nanjing and Hangzhou. www.wycombe.asia
From 2022 William is committed to opening schools around Southeast Asia to create a network of premium quality schools under the Wycombe Abbey Brand. We will draw on our expertise and success from China and the UK to teach excellent language skills in English and Mandarin, have an academic level in keeping with the Wycombe Abbey brand, provide excellent holistic and extracurricular activities on world class campuses throughout the region, with exchange programs amongst all the schools in our group so our students can establish a pan Asian network before graduating to the world’s top universities in the UK and USA.
Emma Vanbergen co-founded BE education with William Vanbergen in 2003. As an expert in international education, she has been a consultant for nearly 17 years and has been an education columnist for the Wall Street journal and other international media. In addition to helping children from Chinese families with overseas education consulting, she is also a consultant to many international and top boarding schools.
Lord Wei is an English social entrepreneur with an interest in social reform. He is the first British-born person of Chinese origin to have become a member of the House of Lords, sitting as a Conservative, and was the youngest member of the House from 2010 to 2016. He was also previously an adviser to the UK Government on their Big Society project.
Lord Wei was made a life peer by Prime Minister David Cameron in 2010 and is the third Chinese Member of the House of Lords, but unlike the previous two, Lord Wei is the first Member of the House of Lords with a party affiliation rather than a neutral Member of Parliament without a party affiliation. His feudal seat is Shoreditch in the London Borough of Hackney. His official title was therefore Lord Wei, Baron Wei of Shoreditch in the London Borough of Hackney, but unlike the previous two, Lord Wei was the first MP with a party affiliation in the House of Lords, rather than a neutral MP with no party affiliation. At 33 years of age when he was appointed, he was the youngest member of the House of Lords and the youngest life peer to be made a lord in history, apart from Lord Redesdale.
Gary Yang graduated from the department of law at Tsinghua University where he obtained his master's degree. Gary has a unique perspective and a wealth of experience in project collection, screening, valuation and risk control. He has helped more than 30 companies successfully conduct IPO (initial public offerings) in domestic and overseas securities markets, as well as extensive experience in investment and management projects.
Tina is responsible for the daily management and operations of the education consulting division. Prior to joining BE Education, Tina gained extensive experience in the education industry, as well as management and operations in affiliated industries. Tina served as operations director and marketing manager of Jingzhong Education group, helping the group set up international schools and English training centres. Tina also worked in Shanghai Union Education Group Union Bilingual School as a deputy director. Tina holds a bachelor's degree in English, a master's degree in education and an advanced master's degree in business administration.
A graduate of Eton College and Durham University, Raff joined BE in 2014 and manages our London based Schools Placement Team. He has tutored pupils of varying ages and nationalities and previously taught English in Uzbekistan and Russia. As well as overseeing some of our more complex school application cases, Raff is in charge of developing BE's relationships with top independent schools.
Ellen graduated from Amsterdam Business School, majoring in International Business and Management. During her studies, Ellen participated in the exchange student program of Ohio University, focusing on marketing and international trade. Ellen joined BE Education in 2007 and has many years of experience in visiting private prep and senior schools in the UK, alongside successfully developing international education programmes for high-net-worth families in China. Ellen has been invited to share her knowledge on UK education with various TV programmes, from ICS, CBN to some HNW forums. After joining BE, Ellen has led a team of consultants who have helped many students to successfully attend traditional British private schools such as Eton, Harrow, Wycombe abbey, Downe House and the top 5 universities in the UK. Some of those students have graduated now and begun successful careers both inside and outside of China.
Saber has more than 10 years of experience in the international education industry, having previously served as the national marketing director of Longre Education, general manager of CIBT, vice president of SIA Art Study Abroad, and general manager of Shanghai Oriental Foreign Language School. Saber has rich experience in education management in many fields, such as nursery schools, kindergartens, study abroad and K12 international schools. Currently, Saber is responsible for curriculum development, academic administration management, teaching planning and other business across China.
Chris Ge has over 10 years of experience in I.T and has been responsible for project management, software and network development, as well as budget and service cost control. Prior to joining BE Education, Chris served as Senior IT Manager for Asia at Maruba Shipping S.A, where he was responsible for the operation and operation training of internal communication systems covering relevant information in 14 countries, as well as the management and development of domestic logistics management systems and Analysis Tool-kit applications.
